Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

An arm lift procedure (also known as brachioplasty) is targeted to reshape upper arm regions that have gone loose and flabby. A more youthful and attractive shape is achieved by removing excess skin and fat in the upper arm. This procedure is popular among individuals who are generally seeking a more toned appearance, as well as those who have undergone significant weight loss. In either case, shapely, taut arms are the intended result.

Toned Arms

As we age, many of us start to see the firm skin and tissue of the upper arms go flabby. It starts with a noticeable jiggle when the arms are moved, but can proceed to the formation of “bat wings” which no amount of diet and exercise can reverse. Such a loosening of the skin in the upper arm can be due to a variety of factors, including sudden weight change, aging and even hereditary factors. The end result is that the skin and tissues of the arm become stretched, lose elasticity, and only an arm lift can undo the damage.

In brachioplasty, excessive skin is removed, sometimes in conjunction with a liposuction procedure to remove fat from the arms. For removal of large amounts of skin, an incision is required that runs from near the elbow to the armpit. The incision is placed in the most inconspicuous location (inner arm toward the back), but some scarring may always be visible. More moderate skin removal is sometimes possible with a smaller incision which is limited to the armpit area to try to keep the scar better hidden.

Arm Lift FAQ

Who is a candidate for Arm Lift procedures?

An arm lift (brachioplasty) is typically indicated for patients who have excess, flabby skin around the upper arms. This can be as a result of sudden weight fluctuations, aging or even genetic factors.

The intended results include: reduction or elimination of excess skin from the upper arms; leaner, more toned arms.

What is Arm Lift surgery and recovery like?

The procedure is usually done under  Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC). In order to remove the unwanted skin, an incision is required that runs from near the elbow into the armpit.

The incision is placed in the most inconspicuous location (inner arm toward the back), but some scarring will always be visible.

After surgery, the upper arms are either wrapped or placed in an elastic sleeve to reduce swelling. Initial healing usually occurs in 10-14 days. Sutures are usually removed within the first 2-3 weeks. Swelling and bruising gradually disappear over 3-4 weeks. All swelling is gone in 3-6 months. The scars fade in 6-24 months depending on your skin.

An additional procedure that may enhance the result is Liposuction of the upper arms or axillae.

How much does an Arm Lift cost in Houston?

Because every patient’s concerns and desires are unique, we recommend that you schedule a consultation with Dr. Jaffer. At the time of your consultation, a treatment plan will be proposed. With those variables identified, it will then be possible to estimate the costs associated with your arm lift procedure.

Please keep in mind that we offer several easy plastic surgery financing options, including those from Alphaeon, Prosper, CareCredit, and PatientFi.
